On the morning of April 14th, 2025 at 9:30am, 6 women bravely ventured into the edge of outer space. Blue Origin’s very first all women flight crew blasted off on a journey 62 miles above Earth’s surface to the Kármán line, the internationally recognized boundary of space. This marks the 11th human flight of Jeff Bezos’ New Shepherd Program. The mission included Aisha Bowe (Bahamian), Amanda Nguyen, Gayle King, Katy Perry, Kerianne Flynn, and Lauren Sánchez.
These 6 women would’ve undergone months of training and preparation for what was described as one of the biggest moments of their lives. Blue Origin’s spacecraft carries a crew of six and is fully autonomous, not controlled by a pilot on board. The crew experiences weightlessness from the moment the capsule separates from the booster until it arcs over the top of the trajectory and begins its descent. Moments after separating from the booster, passengers are able to unstrap and float about the cabin while enjoying spectacular views of Earth. It is reported that Katy Perry sang a tribute to earth “What A Wonderful World”. All women expressed some level of gratitude and even demonstrated by Katy Perry & Gayle King by kissing the ground upon exiting the capsule. It has also been mentioned that the 6 of them shared a beautiful moment together that they will cherish.
