Rick Ross (William Leonard Roberts II), 50, the Miami rapper behind Port of Miami (2006) and founder of Maybach Music Group has been arrested on domestic violence charges against his then girlfriend Jazzma Kendrick.
On August 28, there was a reported domestic violence incident at his Star Island home in Miami Beach. Days before his arrest, his ex-girlfriend posted accusations of physical abuse on Instagram.
On Thursday, October 1, Ross turned himself in to Miami Beach police early in the morning. He was booked on one felony count of battery by strangulation and one misdemeanor battery count, both domestic violence related. At his same day bond hearing, he appeared by video before Miami-Dade Judge Mindy Glazer. His attorney pleaded not guilty for him. Reports say the lawyer asked for faster release because of Ross’s celebrity and safety concerns. The judge answered, “I have no idea who you are, except as somebody here in the court who’s going to be treated fairly.” His bond was set at roughly $5,000 total, and he was ordered to stay away from the accuser and surrender firearms. He walked out the same day. Outside the jail he said, “I’m totally innocent of these fabricated allegations,” and mentioned trips to Dubai and Paris.
Arraignment is scheduled for October 22.
