TAY KEITH: GONE TOO SOON AT 29

Written by on June 22, 2026

Tay Keith — real name BryTavious Chambers — was one of the most important producers in hip hop over the last decade. If you’ve vibed to “SICKO MODE” by Travis Scott and Drake, “Look Alive” by BlocBoy JB, “Nonstop” by Drake, or “Pound Town” by Sexyy Red — that was Tay Keith. He was Grammy-nominated, Memphis-born, and was among Forbes’ 30 Under 30 Music list in 2025. WSMV

On June 18, police performing a welfare check found him unresponsive in his Nashville apartment. He was 29 years old. No foul play is suspected, and the cause of death is pending autopsy results. NBC News

The hip hop community has been in mourning all week. His family released a statement calling him “a visionary producer, songwriter, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and cultural force whose work helped define the sound of a generation.” Drake, Nicki Minaj, Sexyy Red, Key Glock, and others have all paid tribute. There was also a royalty dispute between his camp and Sexyy Red’s label that had been in the news — but after his passing, a representative for Tay Keith’s team absolved Sexyy Red of all responsibility, clearing her name in the matter.
