The Top 5 movies this weekend:
1. Twisters – $80.5 million
2. Despicable Me 4 – $23.8 million
3. Inside Out 2 – $12.8 million
4. Longlegs – $11.7 million
5. A Quiet Place: Day One – $6.1 million
Twisters has gotten off to a thunderous start. The sequel to 1996’s Twister opened at the weekend box office with $80.5 million. That’s way beyond the $50 million to $55 million it was projected to make in its debut. It’s the year’s third-biggest opening behind Inside Out 2 ($154 million) and Dune: Part Two ($82 million).
After two weeks at number-one, Despicable Me 4 dropped to second with $23.8 million.
Inside Out 2 remained in third with $12.8 million
The horror flick Longlegs dropped from second to fourth with $11.7 million.
And A Quiet Place: Day One went from fourth to fifth with $6.1 million.
