Vybz Kartel and Mavado are two of dancehall’s biggest legends, and for years their rivalry — “Gully” (Mavado’s crew) vs “Gaza” (Kartel’s crew) — split Jamaican dancehall fans into warring camps during what’s remembered as the Gully/Gaza era.

The two are now headlining “A Taste of Reggae Sumfest” together on July 18 at Plantation Cove in St. Ann, Jamaica — sharing one stage for the first time since their feud defined a generation of dancehall.

This year’s Reggae Sumfest was scaled back to one night after Hurricane Melissa damaged Montego Bay’s usual festival infrastructure last October, and organizers are treating the Kartel-Mavado reunion as a celebration of that defining chapter in Jamaican music.
