The Academy Awards will take time to honor Quincy Jones, who passed away in November at age 91.
Queen Latifah will pay tribute to the musician and producer during the Oscars. The Grammys celebrated Quincy with the help of Will Smith, who is banned from the Oscars for slapping Chris Rock.
A producer of this Sunday’s show on ABC said (quote) “We’ve planned this beautiful moment that we hope will uplift the room that will celebrate the spirit of Quincy and all of his greatness.”
Quincy earned seven Academy Award nominations but never won the Oscar. He the first Black composer to receive an Oscar nomination for best original song. He earned three nominations for musical scores including for The Color Purple. The Academy gifted Quincy an Honorary Oscar for his lifetime achievements. (Billboard)
