Usher appeared on Forbes’ weekly podcast, The Enterprise Zone, to support Sean “Diddy” Combs. His mentor was convicted last year and will spend two more years in prison.
Usher said (quote) “Certain people are prosecuted but not recognized for their greatness. I don’t have anything negative to say about Sean Combs. My experience was not what the world has seen and how he’s been misrepresented.”
Beyond the criminal prosecution, women and men have filed 66 lawsuits accusing Diddy of sexual assault, harassment and sex trafficking.
Usher added that his perspective is shaped by Diddy’s “valuable contributions made for us as Black entrepreneurs. So many people benefited from what he created. That’s why I see him as legacy.” (USA Today)
BACKSTORY: Sean Combs produced Usher’s first album. He was signed to a recording contract at age 13, then lived with Diddy during a time her called “musical bootcamp.” Usher learned the business but was also exposed as a naïve teenager to the “high-rolling lifestyle of Bad Boy Records.”
