A fresh take on the Street Fighter film universe is on the way, and this time the cast is packed with big names set to breathe new life into Capcom’s legendary fighting game series.
Let’s just say, this all sounds very promising.
Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has officially landed the role of Balrog, joining Jason Momoa who will transform into the wild and powerful Blanka.
There’s even been reporting that comedian and podcast host, Andrew Schulz will play Dan Hibiki!
WOW!
Noah Centineo has signed on to portray Ken, while Orville Peck is stepping into the mask of the nimble Vega. Joe Anoa’i, who wrestling fans know as Roman Reigns, will bring Akuma’s intimidating energy to the screen. Andrew Koji will take on the disciplined warrior Ryu, and Callina Liang will suit up as Chun-Li, as confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter.
Get this, production is set to begin this August in Australia, with Kitao Sakurai, recognized for his work on The Eric Andre Show, directing the ambitious project. Legendary has joined forces with Capcom to produce the film, promising a modern, high-energy spin that stays true to the franchise’s fighting roots.
Street Fighter has inspired multiple adaptations over the years, but none have left as big a mark as the 1994 live action movie starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Raúl Juliá, and Kylie Minogue. Although critics largely dismissed it, audiences showed up in droves, pushing the film’s earnings to around $100 million on a budget of $35 million.
While Capcom has seen mixed outcomes in bringing its games to screens, this reboot is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated yet.
Flat out, we’re excited to hear more about this blockbuster adaptation.
