Rumors Of An Active Shooter Sends Guests At Disney World Running

Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom went from the “The Most Magical Place On Earth” to a chaotic scene Thursday night after rumors spread of an active shooter in the Orlando theme park.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said there was a fight in the park and a loud popping sound which many initially thought was a gunshot. Police believe it was a balloon that popped, but guests took off running and rumors quickly spread that there was a gunman in the park.

People reported being shoved and knocked down as people ran for the exits. Others said they hid and saw parents searching for their kids. Disney World later issued a statement saying, “We appreciate the immediate response of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office to quickly assess and clear the situation. Normal operations have resumed and the park is now closed for the evening.”

Police say no arrests were made regarding the fight because everyone involved declined to press charges.
