KENDRICK LAMAR: Tops Billboard
Written by Ariel Newbold on December 3, 2024
It’s all coming together for Kendrick Lamar. His GNX is the number-one album on the Billboard 200.
Despite the kinda-surprise release, GNX earned 319,000 equivalent album units in its first week out. That’s more than double than the number-two album, the soundtrack to Wicked, starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
Even though it didn’t drop until close to noon on Friday, November 22nd, streaming of GNX also helped Kendrick make history on the Hot 100 singles chart. He becomes just the fourth artist, after Taylor Swift, Drake and The Beatles, to have the Top 5 songs on the chart. Number-one is “Squabble Up.”
