Singer John Legend shares a stage name with porn producer Johnny Legend, who also “dabbled in rockabilly music.”
John Legend’s birth name is John Roger Stephens. Twenty years ago, he took the stage name after negotiating with the Johnny Legend.
John Legend explained in the premiere episode of Word+Music from Amazon Studio how the two men reached an agreement never to sue each other for trademark infringement (quote) “Johnny Legend wouldn’t try to get into the soul music business pretending to be John Legend. And I kept my side of the agreement: I didn’t produce any porn.” (People)
